Another rest day

This morning we woke up quite refreshed. Bruce made us a breakfast of pancakes (from a special home made "flour" of various beans and lentils) to sustain us through the busy day he had organised.

First stop was the Solaire resort where both he and his son have villas - and together built many others. A relaxed community that enjoys the sun, swimming, boating, exercising and barbeques. On the way we passed the home of a local wealthy identity. This guy took the saying "a man's home is his castle" a little too seriously, proving only that a man's castle is his home. The community is in despair. There are limited facilities for tourists.

At the resort we went to Bruce's son's place. It was very secluded, being on the edge, facing outwards and overlooking a quiet stream. The dry rockwalls his son built with local stone are stunning.

Rock walls are a feature of the land we have travelled through for the last week. We were told that rocks continually "grow" up out of the ground because of the freeze/thaw activity which occurs under ground during Winter and Spring.

One of the villas Bruce and his son built sits above and to the side of his son's.

Bruce's villa is on the far side of the central lake, and only accesible by boat. For this, Bruce has a pontoon boat that is electrically powered from a solar charged battery. We delivered a full propane tank for the BBQ and collected some garbage.

It was lunch time when we returned to Bruce's. We had leftover spare ribs - yum!

Our next stop was to visit his friend Sandy. She is a ceramic artist who lives and works in an historic old mill. set in beautifully landscaped grounds, with the mill stream flowing noisily around the building.

We spent some time talking about our travels and hearing about a special glazing process Sandy has perfected to develop red colours with a copper.based glaze. "A gift of the fire" she called it.

Our last stop was to have dinner with Jim and Linda Goodwin. Jim is a photographer we met at Bruce's Shindig a few years ago. We have kept in touch since then, and when he and Linda heard we were touring the US, they invited us to visit. We had a great meal, good wine and enjoyable evening that like all good times went too quickly. After dinner their dog gave us some much needed exercise with a frizby.
