A Minor Change in Plans

Today we were scheduled to head for Gettysburg, scene of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. The following day was set aside to visit Big Bob, a metal artist we correspond with, but haven't yet met. Bob is also a musician (plays tubas and accordions) and motorcycle enthusiast. When he heard we were heading for Gettysburg, he told us he had hoped to ride there with us.

Bob lives about 30 miles north of Gettysburg, so it was no big deal for us to ride to his place first and then make the trip to Gettysburg with him the following day.

The shortest route from Easton where we stayed last night was the same as the fastest: a blast straight down the interstate. We could have taken a longer route, but with hot temperatures and high ozone levels forecast we decided the less time spent on the road, the better.
We arrived at Bob's place in the early afternoon. Bob greeted us with a big smile, warm welcome and cold beer.

We spent most of the afternoon looking at his artworks and hanging around in his workshop.

There he has a V8 powered trike under construction. We talked about that a bit. He had a problem trying to fit handlebar risers on the steering that we were able to solve by putting our heads together.

We drank some more beer and talked a bit more before Bob gave us a recital on his accordion. Wanda's stepfather, Stan, used to play the accordion, and hearing Bob play brought back many memories, and a tear to the corner of our eyes.

We left to find a place to stay for the night. That was the easy part. Harder was finding a supermarket, but the most difficult of all was finding a liquor store to get a bottle of wine. We drove around for half an hour or more, asking everyone we saw along the way where it was. Eventually we stumbled on it.

With all the provisions we needed, it was back to the motel for dinner and blogging.
