The Fourth of July

We had a quiet day today, relaxing with Dick and Marilyn. Marilyn had bought each of us a T-shirt adorned with the stars and stripes, so we were dressed appropriately for the day.

We spent quite some time watching the wildlife at the front of the house, mesmerised by the hummingbirds, cardinals, squirrels, chipmonks, and other birdlife.

Around lunchtime we went into Connersville to see Dick's office. It is full of artwork he and Marlyn have made as well as some works by other artists. We knew Marylin is a metal artist and jeweller, and now we discovered she is a painter, too. Dick is also a painter and a prize winning wood turner to boot.

On the way we visited a primary growth forest reserve where huge trees quietly watched over a mini-national park.

Later in the day a number of Dick and Marilyn's friends arrived for their "Pitch-in". We enjoyed a very pleasant evening chatting with them before heading up to a high point near their home to watch the 4 July fireworks in the distance.
